ONE Pro Cycling team for Beaumont Trophy

June 10, 2016 | 3years | GENERAL

ONE Pro Cycling have announced a strong six-man team for the international Beaumont Trophy cycling road race that takes place on Sunday 19th June and is the final event of the three-day Cyclone Festival of Cycling, based in Northumberland.

Although only in their second season of racing, ONE Pro Cycling are already a UCI Professional Continental registered team and the UK’s only team in this second tier of the sport. This makes them effectively the country’s second ranked team after Team Sky, who are part of the UCI World Team top tier of the sport.

The Team

Twenty-nine year old Peter Williams has made the Beaumont Trophy something of a speciality over the years, with second in 2008 his best result, though tenth last year was his fifth top ten placing in the event.

Dion Smith, 23, from New Zealand, is one of the team’s younger riders and in his first season with ONE Pro Cycling. His early results for the team have been very promising with 10th overall in the Tour de Yorkshire and 5th in the Four Days of Dunkirk standing out.

James Oram, who will be 23 two days before the Beaumont Trophy is another New Zealander new to the team for 2016. He first made his mark when winning his national Under-23 Time Trial Championships in 2015.

The team’s third New Zealander, 22 year old Hayden McCormick succeeded Oram as Under-23 TT champion in his home country, earlier this year and 8th in the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic back in April suggests the Beaumont Trophy’s tough course might be to his liking.

Yanto Barker will be one of the most experienced riders in the race and at the age of 36 he is still a force to be reckoned with, especially in longer, tougher races like the Beaumont Trophy.

Twenty-six year old Pole Karol Domagalski is arguably the man if form in the team at the moment after two stage wins in the Tour of Korea that have also put him into the overall race leader’s jersey.

Organiser Peter Harrison said: “ONE Pro Cycling will be one of the main attractions for spectators at the Cyclone Festival of Cycling’s Beaumont Trophy. They are a team who are going places and it will be great to see them on one of their relatively rare racing appearances in the UK.”
