The 2017 Cyclone Festival of Cycling began with the Tyne 6 Bridges family/fun rides. A lovely mid-summer evening saw hundreds of keen cyclists of all ages enjoying two routes through the centre of Newcastle, along traffic free Sustrans routes and then further up the river, before crossing to the south bank and returning via the spectacular Millenium Bridge.
Initially overcast conditions quickly gave way to bright sunshine and by the time the riders were wending their way back to the start, Newcastle's vibrant weekend nightlife was beginning to gather momentum.
Amongst the riders enjoying the experience was local MP Chi Onwurah, who led off the ride and seemed genuinely thrilled to be part of a big event right in the heart of the city.
